Join us at Cinema Sture for an evening with French director Mati Diop and Swedish journalist Martin Schibbye after the screening of “Atlantics” for a discussion about the stories we tell, why and how.

Mati Diop has with her film “Atlantics” focused on the very real subject of economic migration from Senegal as a starting point for her innovative love story. The economic migration in Senegal leaves the women behind when the men seek out better opportunities. It is a dangerous journey where many die and the women are left heartbroken in uncertainty about what has happened. In “Atlantics” the main character Ada finds solace in her community and Mati Diop tells a supernatural love story that is very much rooted in reality.

In conversation with Swedish journalist and author Martin Schibbye the discussion will focus on the stories we tell and how they are told. Whether in filmmaking or journalism the outsider’s perspective can both help or hinder the person in their work. How do you approach your subject when telling a story from an outsider’s perspective?
